When there is a need, there is a Lion and history shows when drought or flood hits our community, our club is there to assist.
In 2019 our club formed a “City Country Sister Club Project” to assist the Lions Club of Trangie. The rural community of Trangie New South Wales was hit hard by long years of drought. We organised a bush dance, an Elvis Tribute Show, did bucket collections and worked on BBQs to raise funds to help our friends at Trangie Lions. We were able to give a sizable donation to help provide free pool passes for the families of the Trangie community, to give them some relief from the relentless heat of the summer and endless drought. Members and friends of Cambridge Park Lions packed up the bus with goodies and travelled to Trangie in early January 2020 to deliver donated toys, swimwear and household groceries for the people of Trangie. Both Lions clubs joined to take a tour of the drought affected farms and met with local farmers to hear their stories. Afterwards the Lions from both clubs hosted a fee BBQ at the Trangie Pool and met with over 200 local families.
Cambridge Park Lions were also able to contribute to the cost of a wall mural for the town area. This was painted by a local artist and depicted the agricultural history of the area. This beautiful mural will no doubt draw tourists to visit this friendly rural town and stay awhile, and hopefully bring valuable tourist dollars to the town.
